FIFA’s four-year revenue is expected to reach $7.5 billion by the end of the year, with 2.95 million tickets sold before Sunday’s opening ceremony, reported AFP. Qatar has already surpassed Russia, which only sold 2.4 million tickets during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Mexico, Britain, the UAE, Argentina, France, India and Brazil were the top purchasing countries, a FIFA spokesman told French news agency AFP.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated in a press conference that FIFA’s revenue is expected to reach $7.5 billion by the end of the year, he added that revenues have exceeded expectations by over $1 billion more than they predicted four years ago.
Infantino highlighted that “amazing figures” came “in spite of Covid, and different crises around the world.”
The massive revenue increase is reportedly attributed to commercial deals with state-backed companies, including QatarEnergy– a major sponsor for the competition.
FIFA announced during the World Cup Opening Ceremony in Qatar that all sponsorship packages for the World Cup had been sold out, with YouTube, Visit Las Vegas, and Fine Hygienic Holding on the list of sponsors.
