Tourists permitted $300 fuel quota

Foreign tourists will be entitled for tourists fuel passes (TFPs) which will enable them a minimum top up of not less than USD 50 (Rs 18,200) and maximum top up of USD 300 (Rs 109,200) per transaction, the State owned Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) said.

Customers may register for this service via designated bank branches of a private bank (Sampath Bank plc) Island wide, it said. Inbound tourists should produce necessary “know your customer” information and obtain the above service via purchasing a “near field communication” based touch TFP, said ICTA. Within the above limits, a customer could top up multiple times within a day. Top up value will be updated in equivalent amount of Sri Lanka rupees as per the prevailing exchange rate after deducting applicable service charges, it said.  Customer will receive a manual invoice for the exchange rate conversion mentioning the top up value.

This card will only be accepted at any of the Touch enabled fuel service stations Island wide, it said. The user can fuel any number of vehicles using the card up to the top up value, ICTA further said. TFPs are provided solely for the use of tourists visiting Sri Lanka. Foreign passport holders’ residing in Sri Lanka with work permits will not be entitled for this facility, added ICTA. Visa will be validated at the branch level prior to issuing the TFP.
